If you have been reading up on SEO and still think it is too much of a challenge to do yourself, you may be looking for an SEO expert.  Before you start looking though, you may want to think about a few things.  The market is currently saturated with thousands of people who claim to be SEO experts when they are not.  Here are three things to keep in mind:

1. Before you go for the first “SEO expert” that you come across, take some time to compare the candidates.  Don’t ask the SEO expert too much about his own skills and credentials, but rather ask him if he can provide any testimonials or proof of how his SEO skills have improved the search engine rankings of other websites.
2. It is a good idea to educate yourself in some SEO basics before hiring an SEO expert.  This way you will understand what your consultant is doing to improve your website and why.  You will also be aware of whether he is using good or bad tactics (called white hat and black hat) – the latter of which could knock your site completely off the search engine, so it’s best to stay aware.
3. You should also ask your SEO expert for updates throughout the SEO campaign.  Try and act confident and appear knowledgeable even if you are not, as you the last thing you want is to be another statistic on the scammed internet user list.  Stay aware and updated and all will be fine!
